Everest Base Camp Trek, Kathmandu to Lukla

For the flight to Lukla, we had to head to the airport very early. A couple young girls walked drunkenly away as we loaded our gear in the van and we take some time to pull out some cash from the nearby ATM.

The airport was a predictable mess, but this time we had a guide to help coral us through the sea of trekkers.

Cool boarding pass shows the standard trekking route to Everest base camp.

This was my first vision of the Nepalese Himalaya, my face was absolutely glued to the window.

The landing in Lukla was rough and sketchy feeling, probably just standard protocol in this goofy old school plane.

Took a walk up to a shrine positioned above the airstrip for a better view.

As you can see the runway is on a slope, this is how they get away with having a runway far shorter than the standard.
